Visual journaling is basically journaling, but without words. Instead, illustrations are used to depict your experiences.
What exactly is visual journaling?
Visual Journaling relies heavily on observation of the environment and characters around us. Visual journaling despite its name, doesn’t need you to be an expert artist, all you need to know is how to draw stick figures, and you can start your own visual journal today. Just pick the most exciting, interesting, angering, etc. Moment of your day, and depict it with drawings and minimal words
Mario Miranda
One of the great masters of this technique is Mario Miranda. Mario is an expert in observing, and stylizing characters and environments. One of his greatest skills is crowds. Crowds are very difficult to draw, especially for me, but Mario has almost perfected the technique, making each character as unique and interesting as the other. He was my greatest inspiration to start my own visual journaling.
My own visual journal
I started my Visual journal about a week ago. It’s a little difficult to be regular with it in the beginning, but I am trying to make a habit out of it. I am focusing on drawing more crowds, and backgrounds, because those are my weaknesses, and I try to make them simplistic and sketchy. but most importantly I try to depict the scene as closely as I can.
