This part is about origami in modern times. From super intricate and complex models to self folding space telescope shields.
Jeremy Shafer
Jeremy Shafer is an American origamist who likes to fold goofy and funny origami models like, a bat hat, flashers, a fidget spinner, etc. He is an entertainer for children, and can also ride the unicycle, and juggle. Shafer has taught many origami workshops and camps. He has also taught scientists to create origami models of their own for problem-solving. He has designed hundreds of his own models and has put all of them in his books:
Origami Ooh La La! Action Origami for Performance and Play.
Origami to Astonish and Amuse.
Origami Pop-ups: To Amaze and Amuse.
Jeremy Shafer was a regular member of origami U.S.A and published a quarterly newsletter for the San Francisco bay area group B.A.R.F (Bay Area Rapid Folders) but decided to turn his focus to youtube instead. Now he has 4 channels on youtube called, Jeremyevents, Jeremyshafervariety, simple balloon animals, and of course Jeremyshaferorigami which has over 505,000 subscribers, and over 190,000,000 views.
Shuki Kato
Shuki Kato(1990) has been folding since he was 7. He makes extremely complex origami models. His models have been featured in many origami conventions.
This bat is not the finished version but I got stuck while making the legs.
Robert J. Lang
Robert J. Lang(1961) is an American physicist and origamist who is known for the mathematics in origami. Lang was introduced to origami by a school teacher who had exhausted other methods of keeping him entertained. by his teens he was already creating his own origami. while he was studying at Caltech he came in contact with other origamists such as john Montroll, Michael Lafosse, Joseph Wu, etc. Robert Lang became a sensation when he successfully folded a black forest cuckoo clock after 3 months of designing and 6 hours of folding the model. Lang doesn't hesitate to use modern technology from using it for designing to using a laser cutter for marking complex creases. He also helped in making a foldable shield for a space telescope.
This blog was the last one in the origami stories series and I hope I gave you the knowledge about the transition from the discovery of paper super complex black forest cuckoo clocks and self foldable space telescopes.
